It's All About The Salt...

il 20 aprile
Mazara del Vallo

The day, bright and sunny, provided the perfect weather conditions for a boat ride to Mothya Island, a Phoenician settlement built 2,700 years ago. Sitting outside among the island's historic surroundings, we ate a picnic lunch and enjoyed the calm; that is until lots of school children arrived on a field trip! By then, however, it was time to get back on the boat and a visit to the Museo del Sale at Trapani to learn about the tradition and current production of salt. Sicilian salt is known world-wide and, having purchased a bag of it, I can attest to its high quality and clean taste.  Rounding out the day was our final stop at a local winery for a tour and tasting of Marsala wines. Of course, that included buying some wine as well!

And then...there was dinner in town at a fish restaurant. Yes, it was another delightful day of discovery which, in Sicily, always includes food and wine...
