Eating Our Way Through Sicily...

il 18 aprile
Marzara del Vallo, Sicily

I thoroughly enjoyed the days in Palermo and relaxed last night at the spa in my hotel, but to be out of the hustle and bustle of Palermo and explore the Sicilian countryside is a welcome joy. Rolling hillsides, orchards, vineyards, olive groves, and flowers are in abundance here. The air is perfumed and our agriturismo is in the middle of all of this. This afternoon we all hiked in Segesta in the foothills of Monte Pispisa where, in the distance, were seen the ruins of a never completed Doric Greek temple; its columns wonderfully preserved and standing majestically on the hilltop. Our long walk was rewarded with quite a big lunch at the agriturismo Pispisa di Segesta; lots of glorious food and wine ....there went all the calories burned up on the walk to the restaurant, but it was certainly worth it! We are all doing a lot of eating and drinking on this trip and will surely bring home some "Sicilian overweight!"
