A Quick Tour Of Lima And My First Pisco Sour...

Il 7 aprile
Lima, Peru

Getting to our lodge in the rain forest four days ago required a flight from Lima to Iquitos, a bus ride from the Iquitos Airport to the dock, and a 45 minute ride on the Amazon...so this morning, we reversed the operation as it was a travel day back to Lima. We had a quick afternoon tour of the historical downtown area with its charming central plaza, impressive cathedral, and a remarkable library of ancient texts at the monastery of Saint Francis in a room so protected that only the monks can gain full access. This is a city with a "European feel" although, clearly, it has the energy of a bustling and proud Peruvian landmark and would be well worth a longer visit on another trip. We had dinner at a local restaurant, followed by an evening at the hotel where I discovered one of this country's contributions to mankind...the Pisco Sour!
