Assisi
Coming
to Assisi as often as I do, I've decided to make one of my projects
the “experience” of as many restaurants as I can...because I love to eat and I also want to be a source of
recommendations for those who read my blog and visit this beautiful
city. And I have fallen in love...
Osteria
Piazzetta Dell'Erba, located just a very short walk from Piazza
del Comune, is “Number One” on my list. Now, I've eaten in lots
of wonderful restaurants here that I would recommend whole-heartedly,
but this place has a "sophisticated edge.” It's not only that everything I've
eaten in this retaurant has been “delizioso”, but the presentation of the
dishes is lovely.
I ate
here for the first time a couple of nights ago with my friend,
Pietro. It was, truly, a memorable dinner, so, of course, I needed to
come back again before I get on the plane for home Sunday morning.
This
restaurant is a family affair. Matteo, the “master chef”
studied at a culinary school in Assisi and has been cooking for 15
years; seven at this restaurant, but the owner, as well, for the last
eight months. Assisted in the kitchen by his wife, Francesca, and in
the dining area by his brother, Daniele, Matteo has that sense of
knowing just how to combine flavors so that the palate is at once
“surprised” yet very comfortable.
Open
for lunch and dinner, the service is personal and with a smile. And,
as Matteo told me, his dishes are “traditional recipes with modern
inspiration.” My dining experience at Osteria Piazzetta Dell'Erba
was glorious...I'm looking forward to trying everything on the menu
when I came back to Assisi next May...this gives me plenty of time to
go on a diet first!
